Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:
Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To
Can I just say ALL the books? Haha. There were SO many books that came out this past year that I wanted to read. I’ll attempt to narrow it down to 10. Actually, I’m just going to list the first 10 that come to mind. 🙂
Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater – I actually plan on reading this in the next couple of weeks.
100 Sideways Miles by Andrew Smith – I own this one and because I’m doing a challenge to read at least one full shelf on my physical TBR before I buy more books, I’ll be reading this soon
Echo Boy by Matt Haig – do I really need to explain this one? You all know how much I love Matt Haig’s books.
The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey – Pretty much only heard good things. And zombies? Yes, please.
Jackaby by William Ritter – “Doctor Who meets Sherlock”. Is this real life?
Atlantia by Ally Condie – I’ve always loved the idea of Atlantis and this is a man-made underwater world? Yeah, hand it over.
Landline by Rainbow Rowell – I really enjoyed her other adult novel, Attachments, so I think I’ll like this one as well
I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – EVERYONE seems to love this one. I ordered it for my library but haven’t had a chance to read it yet.
Us by David Nicholls – sometimes you just need a sweet romance. I actually really enjoyed Nicholls other book One Day and was looking forward to Us. I hope to read it in the spring – seems like a good time for it.
White Space by Ilsa J. Bick – compared to Memento and Inception in the blurb, both of which I LOVE.
Honorable mentions:
Made for You by Melissa Marr
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick
Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini
Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Okay, I could seriously go on alllll day long. There were so many good-sounding books that came out in 2014. What 2014 releases did you not get to but wish you had? Link me up to TTT if you participated!
I’ve been salivating over The Girl with All the Gifts for what feels like months. (Side note: is “salivating” too gross to use in reference to a zombie book? or just gross enough)? Anyway, very excited to finally get to it!
I think it’s just gross enough. Lol. I’m excited to get to it too!
Ha, I haven’t read any of these except Snow Like Ashes and Open Road Summer from your honorable mentions.
I hope i can get to I’ll Give You the Sun, Jackaby, and 100 Sideways Miles this year!
Did you enjoy Snow Like Ashes and Open Road Summer? I hope you get to read all of those too!
I’ll Give You The Sun was one of my favorites in 2014 – get to it SOON!

Oh, goodness! I definitely think I’m going to have to get to that one soon. Everyone seems to have loved it.
Aaa, I thought I commented on this already…I hadn’t.
Definitely want to read those too haha, especially 100 Sideways Miles & Atlantia by Ally Condie (her previous book were good) & Matt Haig. AND!! “Doctor Who meets Sherlock”? 😀 Seriously sounds so good XD
I am dying to read the new book by Matt Haig. I love him and I need that book.
Hahaha. Right? DW and Sherlock? AWESOME.
The Girl With All The Gifts has zombies?!?! I don’t know how I feel about this, but I think I’ll be reading it sooner rather than later… R x
My TTT: https://confessionsofabookgeek.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/top-ten-tuesday-2014-releases-i-didnt-get-to/
Yeah. At least that’s what I’ve been told. My boss at the library read it and loved it, so I’m looking forward to it!
Ohh there are a few of these I would REALLY like to read! Namely, The Girl with all the Gifts, 100 Sideways Miles, and Landline! And I own Atlantia, so I should probably get on that too! (I think I also may own Sinner and Jackaby…) And I’ll Give You the Sun was really, really good! Hope you get to read and enjoy these all soon!
(I could have gone on all day too 😉 )
Haha! I hope to get to I’ll Give You the Sun soon. I can’t wait to see what everyone’s talking about. We should both do Atlantia soon, especially since we own it!
One full shelf, huh? You must have a lot of TBR books stacked up on your shelves.
100 Miles Sideways has an intriguing cover. I wonder if I can find it in my library…
I have over 60 books that I own but have not read, so yep! A lot. Lol.
That’s what made me choose 100 Sideways Miles versus Grasshopper Jungle – the cover was too cool. Hopefully they’ll have it!
When All The Gifts was first announced, there was no indication of it being about zombies (at least none that I saw–particularly in Goodreads shelving) and I was pretty intrigued up to that point. But now I feel like my internally-driven hyped feels have dampened with knowing that little bit of information haha.
Cheers,
joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
😦 I’m sorry! I thought it was well-known. I kind of just guessed from the “she jokes she won’t bite” in the synopsis and then it’s also shelved as zombies on Goodreads. I’m really sorry to have spoiled anything!
Haha it is definitely not your fault! I guess the potential clue was there in the blurb but I was definitely hoping it was something else–loosely related to abilities or what-have-you! I think I only remember it being shelved as horror but without the specificity of it being zombie. Anyways–I was told that it was introduced early so its not super spoiler-y after all!
Landline is on my list too! I haven’t read any Rainbow Rowell yet but I know I will catch up this year!
I’ve only read Attachments, but I really enjoyed it! Hope you get to read it soon! 🙂
I’m listening to The GIrl With All the Gifts in my car now and its an interesting read so far…curious to see where it will go.
My TTT is here.
Hmmm. I hadn’t thought of reading that one as an audiobook, but that might be a good idea. Do you like the narrator?
I love your honourable mention of Snow Like Ashes, because it is on my list too! And I can’t believe I didn’t put the Girl With All The gifts on my list. I wanted to read it so much!
Check out my TTT!

I think both of those books sound really great! I hope we get to read both of them this year. 🙂
Hahaha yes to ALL THE BOOKS!! If only it could be done. I also wanted to read I’ll Give You The Sun because I’ve basically seen nothing but good things about it 🙂
Same here! I’ve yet to see a review of that book that was really bad.
Landline is fabulous! I read it right when it came it and I adored it.
Yay! I can’t wait to check it out!
I’m excited for Jackaby too. I just found out about it so I’m not going to be too hard on myself about that one!
I hope you get to read all of these soon. 🙂
I waiting so long for Atlantia and then when it finally became available at the library, I didn’t get to it before it expired. Le sigh.
Oh no! That stinks. Hopefully you can get it again!
Great list! Woah is Sinner part of the Forever Series, It looks like it but I have no idea that there was anything after the third book. Great picks and thanks for checking out my TTT. new bloglovin follower! ~ Katie
YES! It’s a companion novel to the series all about Cole! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for following! 🙂
I really enjoyed White Space! And I’m looking forward to reading Atlantia as well. I’ve read the first chapter or so in a teaser, but I haven’t had time to pick the rest of the book up yet.
I am a big fan of psychological thrillers, so I’m looking forward to White Space. I hope we both get to read Atlantia soon!
I’ll Give You the Sun is on my list too. I loved Landline. Attachments is still my favorite Rainbow Rowell book, but Landline definitely comes in at a close second. You can see my Top Ten Tuesday here.
I’m so excited to read Landlines. I haven’t read any of Rowell’s YA, but I really liked Attachments. Thanks for stopping by!
Sinner isn’t that good, so you didn’t miss that much if you are going to read it now in 2015. In other way, Fangirl is perfect. It’s totally touchy and lovely and sweet and cute. If there was more than 10 picks for this Top Ten Tuesday, I would have added Atlatia and I’ll give you the sun, but then again, there aren’t my top ten. Great list! my ttt
It isn’t THAT good, but is it good, at all?
I’m looking forward to Atlantia and I’ll Give You the Sun, so hopefully we’ll both get to read those this year!
The Girl With All the Gifts was great. Not your typical zombie read. It was thoughtful and exciting. Definitely worth a read.
I really want to check that one out! I am a bit obsessed with zombies, so that’s exciting to know it’s different from your typical read.
haha I have 5 of these on my list this week as well! Great minds think alike 😉 Check out my TTT: http://shereadssheblogs.com/2015/01/13/top-ten-tuesday-2014-releases-that-i-missed/
Haha. So true!
I loved Landline even more than attachments, so I think you’ll like it too! Also, I can’t wait for you to read Trial by Fire because I just finished it and LOVED it!
Even more than Attachments?! I need to check it out ASAP.
Ohhhh you just reminded me of my copy of The Girl with all the gifts!! This is such a great reminder. I’m making a list of books to read from other people lists that I forgot to add to my list. * head spins*
❤️Britt @ pleasefeedthebookworm.com
Haha. Glad I could help. I’m looking forward to that one! Hope we can both get to it soon. 🙂
I’ve read Sinner and it’s really good, which surprised me because there’s so little fantasy in it. The Girl with all the Gifts, Atlantia, and Jackaby almost made my list, but I’ve read some mixed reviews so they were in the 10-20 instead of the top ten.
Yay for Sinner! I can’t wait to read it. I’ve heard mixed things about those three as well, but I still want to check them out! 🙂
I really wanted to read Landline & I’ll Give You The Sun. Hopefully we will both read them this year. Completely forgot about Atlantia. That book sounds fascinating.
I hope you’re able to get to all the books you want to read. 🙂 I completely agree! Atlantia sounds really cool. I got it for Christmas from a bookish exchange so hopefully I’ll read it soon!
Landline!! I can’t recommend this book enough. It was one of my favorite reads last year. I have seen how popular I’ll Give you the Sun is and contemplated giving it a try. I hope you get to read all of these this year! 🙂
Sinner is on my list as well, but I’m definitely adding some of the other books on your list to my TBR pile.
Haha. Awesome! Which books?
Definitely Us and Atlantia, and probably Jackaby too. They all sound so good! Hope you enjoy I’ll Give You the Sun. I loved that one and am so excited you’re reading it.
I just want to read ALL THE BOOKS! I hope to get to all of them soon.
