WWW Wednesday [11] – The Rosie Effect, Batman, and Firecracker

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three questions: (As always, all titles are linked to their corresponding Goodreads pages)

  • What are you currently reading? The Rosie Effect

I’m currently reading The Rosie Effect, the follow up to Graeme Simsion’s super amazing book, The Rosie Project. I’m enjoying being back with Don and Rosie. I’m reading it pretty quickly and I’m laughing just as much as I’d hoped I would. Don is just so awkward. If you want a little teaser from the book, check out my Teaser Tuesday from yesterday.

  • What did you recently finish reading?IMG_20141222_150321

I read a bunch of Batman comics on Monday. My boss lent them to me at least two months ago and I just hadn’t gotten around to them. I read: Batman: Year One and Year Two, A Death in the Family, Lovers & Madmen, and Batman: RIP.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

FirecrackerI’m not sure. I’d planned to read The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare, but my lovely friend Annette sent me three awesome books for Christmas (Firecracker by David Iserson, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin, and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness). The way that she’s talked about Firecracker (and her review) have made me really interested, so I think I’ll read that next!

WWW Wednesday [10] – My true love gave to me embarrassing true stories

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three questions: (As always, all titles are linked to their corresponding Goodreads pages)

  • What are you currently reading?

My True Love Gave to MeI’m currently reading one story a day from My True Love Gave to Me (so far I’ve reviewed Rainbow Rowell’s “Midnights”“The Lady and the Fox” by Kelly Link, and Matt de la Peña’s “Angels in the Snow” and Jenny Han’s “Polaris is Where You’ll Find Me”. I’m also starting my reread of Maggie Stiefvater’s Linger today. I tried to do it as an audiobook like I did with Shiver, but the copy I checked out from the library skipped too much. 😦 It’s perfect weather to reread these books.

  • What did you recently finish reading? We Should Hang Out Sometime

Yesterday, I finished We Should Hang Out Sometime: Embarrassingly, a True Story by Josh Sundquist. It was pretty funny and very, very honest – to the point where you almost feel as embarrassed as he does. I related to it a lot, in ways that I’ll discuss in my review on Friday.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

The Iron TrialAfter I finish Linger (which should be by Friday), I believe I am going to read The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. I have a few others checked out from the library that I’d like to read, and I also got The Winner’s Curse and several other books from my Belles’ Enchanted Book Exchange partner that I want to dig in to, so I’m not 100% sure what I’ll read. I’ll see what jumps off my shelf after I finish Linger.

What about you? What are you reading?

WWW Wednesday [9] – A Thousand Pieces of You, The Book of Strange New Things, & Comics

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three questions: (As always, all titles are linked to their corresponding Goodreads pages)

  • A Thousand Pieces of YouWhat are you currently reading?

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. I’ll be starting this one today so I don’t have too much to say about it yet. I’ve heard mixed things but several people I trust have said they loved it. I’m looking forward to starting it.

  • The Book of Strange New ThingsWhat did you recently finish reading?

I finished Michel Faber’s The Book of Strange New Things yesterday. It wasn’t at all what I expected, but I really, really enjoyed it. More literary than I usually read, but it was refreshing and a nice change from my norm. I’ll be reviewing it next week.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?Batman and Robin Lego Variant

I haven’t decided yet. I’ve just started my current read, so I don’t know what I’ll feel like after, but I have a big stack of new comics that I’ll probably dive into after my current book. I’ve got the latest issues of Gotham Academy, Memetic, Thor, Superior Iron Man, Batman and Robin, Fiction Squad, Arkham Manor, and a few others I can’t think of right now. So I’ll be reading all of those next.

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three questions: (As always, all titles are linked to their corresponding Goodreads pages

  • The Book of Strange New ThingsWhat are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Michel Faber’s new book The Book of Strange New Things. It is indeed strange so far, but in a seriously good way. I am really enjoying it. It’s sci-fi, fantasy, literary fiction, and it discusses religion, which I’m sometimes iffy about but I think it’s going to be done in a tasteful and really interesting way. So, we’ll see. 🙂

  • Black IceWhat did you recently finish reading?

In the past week, I finished reading/listening to the audiobook for Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling, which I reviewed HERE, and Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick, which I’ll be reviewing on Friday. I somewhat enjoyed both of them but I didn’t love them. That’s okay though. I liked several parts of them.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?Legend

Well, I posted my December TBR yesterday. I’m not really sure what I want to read next. I think I’ll probably reread Linger next, but I might do Legend next or… I don’t know. What do you think I should read next??

What about you? What are you reading and what will you read next? Tell me about your booooooks.

  • Black IceWhat are you currently reading?

I’m reading Becca Fitzpatrick’s Black Ice. It’s interesting so far. I haven’t really had time to just sit down and read it, but every time I do, I read at least 50 pages in no time. Hopefully I can finish it on Thanksgiving. 🙂

  • What did you recently finish reading?10335308

This past weekend, I took a trip down to the coast and to New Orleans. On the way there and back, I listened to Mindy Kaling’s autobiography Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? It was entertaining and funny and fun to listen to. I plan on reviewing it on Friday.

  • A Thousand Pieces of YouWhat do you think you’ll read next?

I was going to read Michael Grant’s Messenger of Fear next, but then I bought A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray and I have to read it next. I’ve been looking forward to this one for months and months. Plus look at how absolutely beautiful that cover is. That book deserves to be read.

WWW Wednesday [6] – Floating Boys, comics, and indecision

WWW Wednesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three questions: (As always, all titles are linked to their corresponding Goodreads pages)

  • What are you currently reading?Floating Boy and the Girl Who Couldn't Fly

I am currently reading Floating Boy and the Girl Who Couldn’t Fly by Stephen Graham Jones and Paul Tremblay. It’s an interesting book so far. I’m intrigued by the idea of a boy who floats and a girl who can’t. I do want to know what’s going to happen. I’m about 55% of the way through, and I plan to finish it today/tomorrow.

  • Superior Iron ManWhat did you recently finish reading?

Yesterday I read a bunch of new comics. Here’s what I read: Wytches #2, Annihilator #1, Saga #24, Gotham Academy #2, Superior Iron Man #1, The Walking Dead #134, Wild’s End #3, and Memetic #1. I enjoyed all of them. Superior Iron Man was my first Iron Man comic and I can’t wait to read more. I love how British Wild’s End is. Wytches is weird and creepy and awesome. Annihilator was…interesting. It’s Grant Morrison so you know it’s weird. The Walking Dead was great. Duh. Memetic is about a killer meme. A meme that kills, so yeah. Cool.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?Black Ice

I can’t decide if I’m going to start Becca Fitzpatrick’s new book Black Ice or Michael Grant’s new book Messenger of Fear. Both are due back at the library on the same day… um, today. So yeah. Which would you recommend I read first??

What did you read in the past week? What are you going to read next?

  • What are you currently reading?Afterworlds

I’m currently reading Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. It’s pretty great so far. I haven’t gotten that far into it yet as I’ve been a little busy (or relaxing with arts and crafts like yesterday), but I hope to read more of it today. I really like the alternating chapters between real life and Darcy’s fantasy world in her novel. So cool.

  • What did you recently finish reading?

The Young ElitesI finished reading Marie Lu’s The Young Elites a few days ago and reviewed it on Monday. I thought it was absolutely incredible. I was super impressed by my first Lu book. Her world building was amazing and I cannot wait for the next book. The Young Elites is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. I gave it a 9.5, which should tell you how much I loved it.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?IMG_20141101_104327

I’m not sure. I had this awesome haul last week, and I’m not sure what I want to read next from it. What do you guys think? Want to recommend something to me? Let me know in the comments! 🙂 Here are the titles I want to choose from: My True Love Gave to Me, Black Ice, Belzharor Messenger of Fear.

  • What are you currently reading? The Young Elites

I just started Marie Lu’s The Young Elites last night. I’m only a few chapters in but I am already loving it. Her writing is amazing, and already the world-building is incredible. I hope to have time to read a good chunk of it at work today (oh the perks of working at a library!). I’m so glad it won my little what-to-read-next poll! 🙂

  • What did you recently finish reading?

Get HappyI recently finished (and reviewed) Mary Amato’s Get Happy, which I was quite impressed with – check out my review for more on that. I also read (and reviewed on WatchPlayRead) the first issue of the new Edward Scissorhands comic, which I also quite liked. I read the latest issue of The Walking Dead (always good), Batman and Robin (freaking awesome), and a few others. I’ve had a good few days of reading.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?Afterworlds

I think I’ll probably read Scott Westerfeld’s Afterworlds. It was the other book in my what-to-read-next poll and it lost, but after I finish The Young Elites, I’ll probably check that one out. I’m looking forward to that one as well. I’ve heard some mixed things about it, but I haven’t ever really had a problem with Scott Westerfeld, so I’m sure I’ll like it.

  • What are you currently reading?

The Night CircusI’m currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It’s interesting so far. I’m enjoying myself. It is very, VERY visual, which is super cool. I love the color scheme of the cover, which continues to run throughout the book.

  • What did you recently finish reading?

Bodies Issue 3 coverI’m going to give you a comic for this question this week. I just read Bodies #3 (written by Si Spencer). This is a limited run being released from Vertigo. I’ve reviewed Issue #1 and Issue #2 over on WatchPlayRead and interacted with Si Spencer on Twitter a bit about the comic. It’s an interesting comic, and this issue revealed a few things that I just wasn’t expecting.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

MortalEnchantment_coverAfter I finish The Night Circus, I’ll be reading Stacey O’Neale’s Mortal Enchantment. I’m taking part in the Mortal Enchantment Blog Tour (my post will be up on the 21st). I enjoyed the prequel, The Shadow Prince, so I’m looking forward to this one.

  • What are you currently reading?Blue Lily, Lily Blue

I haven’t started it yet, but I’ll be starting Blue Lily, Lily Blue today!! I’m so excited that I have an e-ARC of this. I know it comes out in just a couple of weeks, but I don’t want to wait. Maggie Stiefvater is a wordsmith and her books are incredible. I can’t wait to go back to Henrietta and the Raven Boys. Yeah, I’m going to hurry up with this post so I can start that!

  • What did you recently finish reading?

Oh Yeah, Audrey!I just finished reading Oh Yeah, Audrey! by Tucker Shaw. I read it in approximately 2.5 hours for a few reasons: it’s a ridiculously quick read; it’s not really that deep so it’s easy to fly through it; and more reasons, which I’ll cover in my review of it. Should be up this week.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?Mortal Enchantment

After Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I’m going to read Mortal Enchantment by Stacey O’Neale. I’m one of the blogs that’s participating in the Mortal Enchantment Blog Tour. I recently read and quite enjoyed the prequel to Mortal Enchantment titled The Shadow Prince, so I’m looking forward to reading this one.
