Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d Like to Check in With

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:

Top Ten Characters You’d Like To Check In With (meaning, the book or series is over and you so just wish you could peek in on the “life” you imagine they are leading years down the line after the story ends).

I have very carefully chosen books that will probably never see another book. I think it’s somewhat silly to choose a book that is in the middle of the series or will have at least one more book after (even though I CAN’T WAIT to check it with the Raven Boys).

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli    The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky    The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons    The Humans by Matt Haig    Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

1. Simon and Blue – Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (Happy publication day to this wonderful book!)

2. CharlieThe Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

3. Aya and KiranThe Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

4. Professor Andrew MartinThe Humans by Matt Haig

9. Grace Brisbane – the Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater

10. Jennifer and EricS. by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst

There are so many more I could list. What characters would you love to check in with?

Note-able: The Hanging Tree, sung by Jennifer Lawrence

Note-able is my very, very irregular post in which I talk about songs, musicians, bands, concerts…in other words, any music that I find special or worthy to be discussed.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s kind of obsessed with this song, right? I’ve read the books, you’ve read the books, we’ve read the lyrics to this song, probably more than once (at least in my case). They are haunting and creepy and maybe give you the chills (again, at least in my case). You might’ve even imagined what the song sounded like, how the melody went. But nothing prepared us for Jennifer Lawrence singing it in the first installment of Mockingjay. Her voice isn’t perfect. I doubt I’d buy her CD if she came out with one. But her voice is soulful and gave life to this song in a way it never really got in the book. I got chills in the movie theater, sitting there listening to her sing this song and watch those people march. Every time I listen to it now, I get those chills again. I can’t stop singing, “Are you, are you coming to the tree?”

Alright, you’re probably tired of me blabbing on and on about it. If you haven’t heard the song, listen to it below, and then tell me what you think in the comments!

New Mockingjay Part 1 Poster

Holy crap, you guys! Have you seen this poster? It is gorgeous and amazing and I really want this to be on my wall. The marketing for this movie is so ridiculously awesome. I’m super impressed with all of it, including both the first and second teaser trailers – which I kind of fangirled over on the blog. When I saw this new poster today I just kind of stared at it for a second. I know it’s not super complex or necessarily deep or anything, but I love it. So yeah, that’s it. I just wanted to share it with you guys. 🙂 Mockingjay Part 1 hits theaters on November 21!

Mockingjay Part 1: Trailer #2

You guys, I kind of can’t handle anything right now. This trailer is AMAZING. I’m seriously loving the marketing that they’re doing for this movie. AHHH. Just know that I’m pretty much flailing over here. I don’t even have words. Just watch it and then let’s fangirl in the comments together, okay??

THIS IS SUCH A COOL TRAILER! The Mockingjay LIVES. YES.

Mockingjay Part 1: Teaser Trailer

You guys! The first teaser trailer for Mockingjay Part 1 was released yesterday, and OH MY GOSH is it incredible. A lot of people were really upset that it wasn’t an actual trailer for the movie, but I thought it was a brilliant piece of marketing. It’s very simple and understated, but it is also quite powerful.

President Snow (Donald Sutherland) sits on a white throne while Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) stands next to him. The pair are dressed in perfectly clean, brilliant white. Snow delivers a decidedly grim speech to the people of Panem:

Since the dark days, our great nation has known only peace. Ours is an elegant system, conceived to nourish and protect. Your districts are the body; the Capitol is the beating heart. Your hard work feeds us, and in return, we feed and protect you. But if you resist the system, you starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed.  I know you will stand with me, with all of us, together, as one. Panem Today, Panem Tomorrow, Panem Forever.

Watch the trailer below and fangirl with me!

My favorite part of this trailer is that it makes us all out to be citizens of the Capital. What a great marketing tool. Are we citizens of the Capital, brainwashed and obsessed with appearances and material items, or are we citizens of the districts, ready to rebel and break free of this oppressive system? It’s an ingenious trailer, and I am seriously impressed.

The look Peeta gives at the end of the trailer gave me chills! Snow knows that the rebellion is happening whether he wants it to or not, so he’s not trying to stop it. The speech is a threat, first and foremost. He begins by offering protection and food and a system meant to provide for its people. But then he turns cold and scary. He will destroy those who rebel against the system. He will not stand for it. Peeta stands beside him with his head held high. If you look closely, however, you notice that his tie has a point on it so sharp it could seriously wound him if he lowers his head.

Can’t wait for the movie! What was your reaction to the trailer? Are you as excited as I am?

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Boyfriends

toptentuesday

So it’s Top Ten Tuesday again! Yay! This week’s theme as laid out by The Broke and the Bookish is:

Top Ten Characters Who X (you fill in the blank — examples: piss me off, are the popular kids, are bookish, would be my bff, that stole my heart, etc. etc.)

I decided to choose top ten characters who were totally my book boyfriend.

I’d just like to say before I start this list that I am probably seriously screwed up if these are the characters I’d choose to be my boyfriend. But you know what? This is a judgment free zone. So no judging, okay? J I’d also just like to say I’m not really a Mr. Darcy type of girl.

1. Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower (he’s messed up, too, so we’d be one really messed up couple)

Charlie

Logan Lerman is my perfect Charlie.

2. Augustus Waters from The Fault in Our Stars (I think everyone will agree on this one)

3. John Rebus from the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin (I’m so screwed up)

4. Fred or George Weasley (I mean, constant laughs)

Just adorable!

Just adorable!

5. Will from Divergent (he’s witty and sweet and brave)

6. Don Tillman from The Rosie Project (imagine dating Sheldon Cooper. I have problems)

7. Finnick from The Hunger Games series (He is gorgeous, strong, sweet. What else do you want?)

I mean, HELLO!

I mean, HELLO!

8. Sherlock Holmes (Of course I’d be interested in someone who’d have absolutely none in me)

9. Wes from The Truth About Forever (No words, guys)

I couldn’t think of a full list, so I asked one of my friends, Noelle Avenmarg, for her book boyfriend. She said:

10. Calvin O’Keefe from the Wrinkle in Time series. (Probably my first book crush).
