Teaser Tuesday: Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book!

ForeverMy current read is Forever by Maggie Stiefvater. I opened it to a random page – 78 – and this is the quote I want to tease you with. It’s near the beginning and contains no spoilers for the series overall. It’s just got some pretty writing and adorableness.

After a while, Grace fell asleep for real on my chest, and I tried, unsuccessfully, to follow her. Then I picked my book back up again and stroked her hair and read to the soundtrack of her breaths. The weight of her pinned my fleeting thoughts to the ground, and in that moment, I was more in the world than I’d ever been.

Have you guys read this series? Isn’t it wonderful? I love that you can see Maggie’s writing develop through the series.

Teaser Tuesday – The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book! The Rosie Effect

My current read is The Rosie Effect. (WOOO!) I’m reading this one as an e-ARC on my Kindle, so I found some quotes on the book’s Goodreads’ page, and I found one to tease you with.

“To the world’s most perfect woman.’ It was lucky my father was not present. Perfect is an absolute that cannot be modified, like unique or pregnant. My love for Rosie was so powerful that it had caused my brain to make a grammatical error.”

D’aaawwww. I just love Don. If you guys haven’t read or don’t know much about The Rosie Project, Don is basically Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory, with a few differences. He’s also really smart, socially awkward, and has a hard time understanding social cues, people, and difficult situations. I love the way he talks, which is really straight-forward, dry, and plainly. He’s super intelligent but awkwardly and strangely – to people who aren’t used to it. I’m really happy to be back with him and Rosie for The Rosie Effect. Expect a review soon!

[By the way, this is the UK cover because I prefer them to the US covers]

Teaser Tuesday: We Should Hang Out Sometime by Josh Sundquist

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book!

We Should Hang Out SometimeMy current read is We Should Hang Out Sometime: Embarrassingly, a True Story by Josh Sundquist. I’m reading this one as an e-ARC, so I can’t exactly open it to a random page. Instead, I’m going to give you a passage that I highlighted because I thought it was pretty funny. This quote is found 17% of the way through the e-ARC.

“And you’ll probably be invited to join a gang,” he added.

“In your first week,” said Mom.

“Don’t worry,” I said. “I’ll be sure to wait until offers come in from all the gangs before I make my final decision.”

This book is full of witty anecdotes like this and I’ve found myself smiling or laughing several times. The book is pretty funny and honest, so I’m enjoying it so far, for the most part. I plan on reviewing it Friday, so check back then for my full thoughts! Make sure you add We Should Hang Out Sometime to your Goodreads TBR. It comes out on December 23!

Teaser Tuesday: A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

A Thousand Pieces of YouMy current read is A Thousand Pieces of You. I opened it to a random page – 104 – and this is the quote I want to tease you with.

Red security lights begin to pulse. The grids cast strange shadows that seem to carve lines around and through us. Soon the metro police will be here. Shit.

I haven’t started this one yet (I just finished my last read this morning), but I’ve been looking forward to it for a while. I’ve heard good things. Seems like it’s going to be full of action, at least that’s what I get from this teaser. Looking forward to jumping in.

Teaser Tuesday: The Book of Strange New Things

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book!

My current read is The Book of Strange New Things.  I opened it to a random page – 261 – and this is the quote I want to tease you with.

The Book of Strange New Things

When, at last, the body of Jesus Lover One’s mother had yielded all the bounty it was going to yield, she lay exhausted on the ground, in the shade of a couple of gently swaying garments that hung on the washing line nearby. Since she was the only Oasan Peter had seen completely naked, he had no way of telling how much of the grotesquery he saw before him was due to decay and how much of it was what he would have found under the clothing of any healthy, living Oasan.

Well then. That’s…interesting. I’m currently 50 pages into this one and I’m a little freaked out by my own teaser. I’m enjoying the book so far though, so I am looking forward to finding out who the heck “Jesus Lover One” is and why that is his (her?) name. This one is strange, indeed, but I like a good, strange book.

Teaser Tuesday: Floating Boy and the Girl Who Couldn’t Fly

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book!

Floating Boy and the Girl Who Couldn't FlyMy current read is Floating Boy and the Girl Who Couldn’t Fly. I’m reading this as an e-ARC on my Kindle, so no page number, but I’m going to tease you with a quote from where I currently am in the book (Location 1370).

My heart soars and my stomach drops at the idea of flying with him again.

I’m working my way through this book and it’s…interesting so far. I’m 55% of the way through according to my Kindle, so I am looking forward to seeing what happens. The idea of a boy who can float is something I haven’t really come across so far (other than, you know, flying on a broom or being a superhero).

Teaser Tuesday: Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book!

Afterworlds

My current read is Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. I opened it to a random page – 283 – and this is the quote I want to tease you with from that page.

The whistle of the bad man’s breath sputtered for a moment, and a tremor passed through the gray bedclothes. I froze, staring at them, my heart pounding sideways in my chest. Even invisible, I felt as though any movement would wake him. I was afraid to breath.

Afterworlds is told in alternating chapters (from Darcy’s perspective and then from chapters within her novel), so I thought it’s only fair to give you a teaser from a chapter set in Darcy’s perspective, as the first is from her novel. This teaser is from page 264.

Their bodies fit perfectly like this, two continents pulled apart eons ago but now rejoined.

I know that last one isn’t very long, but I like that sentence all by itself. It doesn’t need any context. I’ve only read ten pages of Afterworlds so far, but I really like it. I’m looking forward to getting to these two teasers.

Teaser Tuesday [2] – The Night Circus

Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s super easy: open your current read to a random page and share two sentences from that page – but make sure you don’t spoil the book!

The Night CircusMy current read is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I opened it to a random page – 273 – and this is the quote I want to tease you with (it continues onto page 274):

“Manipulation. I called it magic when I was younger. It took me quite some time to break the habit, though my father never cared for the term. He’d call it enchanting, or forcibly manipulating the universe when he was not in the mood for brevity.”

I like that, “forcibly manipulating the universe”. That’s an interesting way to phrase that. I’m enjoying this read so far. I’m about 100 pages in, but I’m moving through it pretty quickly.

TeaserTuesday

I thought this sounded like a lot of fun, so here we go!

The Dream ThievesMy current read is Maggie Stiefvater’s The Dream Thieves. I opened it to a random page – 218 – and these are the sentences I’d like to tease you with:

But Ronan felt nothing but that fiery, empty cavern in his chest. He slid himself into the driver’s seat as Gansey shut the passenger door.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to read more. I’m just starting this one, so I’ve got those sentences to look forward to.
