Top Ten Tuesday: (6) Bookish Characters

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:

Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds (love reading, are writers, work at a bookstore, etc.)

I couldn’t come up with a list of ten bookish characters, so instead, I have a list of six characters and a quote that describes their bookishness.

Throne of Glass The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Matilda by Roald Dahl The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Celaena Sardothien, Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

“Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”

Charlie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

“It’s strange because sometimes, I read a book, and I think I am the people in the book.”

Liesel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

“When she came to write her story, she would wonder when the books and the words started to mean not just something, but everything.”

Hermione Granger, Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

“I’ve learned all of our course books by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough – I’m Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?”

Matilda, Matilda by Roald Dahl

“These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”

Skeeter, The Help by Kathryn Stockett

“I always order the banned books from a black market dealer in California, figuring if the State of Mississippi banned them, they must be good.”

Who are your favorite bookish characters?

I’m kind of obsessed with the new Harry Potter illustrations by Jim Kay

You guys may or may not be aware that JIM KAY (illustrator of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness) will be illustrating Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Philosopher’s Stone in the UK), which will be coming out in October of this year! As a HUGE Potterhead, I’m obviously very excited about this, both because I always want more of this world and because I love Jim Kay’s illustrations. I think his dark, strange, and unique illustrations will be absolutely perfect  Today, Scholastic released four images by Jim Kay (of Draco, Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid!). My favorite has got to be Draco (Draco is one of my favorite characters), but I also really love Hermione’s illustration (if you zoom in you can see all kind of cool engravings in the door – Lupin, Riddle, Snape). I do not own any of the images; they are available for download in the Scholastic Media Room.

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I’d want at my lunch table

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:

Top Ten Book Characters That Would Be Sitting At My Lunch Table (you know…back to school theme)

This is such a fun idea! Also, a hard one. Hmmm. Here we go:

Hermione Granger, The Harry Potter series – Bookish, smart, determined. We’d definitely be friends.

Hermione with books

Cricket Bell, Lola and the Boy Next Door – smart, kind-hearted, lovely. When I told Stephanie Perkins this past weekend that Cricket was my favorite boy out of the three, she said, “It makes me so happy when people tell me Cricket’s their favorite! He’s the most kind-hearted out of the three.” That made me think that not that many people tell her he’s their favorite (most people probably like St. Clair). I adore Cricket. Also, I’m going to pretend Cricket is single for the purpose of this list. 🙂

Blue Sargent, The Raven Cycle books – she’s just awesome. I think we’d get along. Also, maybe she’d bring Gansey around. Haha.
August Pullman, Wonder – I don’t care what you look like. What matters to me is how you treat people. August is a great human being and he’s also quite funny.

Patrick, The Perks of Being a Wallflower – Do I really need an explanation for this one? I do? Well take this gif:

Craig Gilner, It’s Kind of a Funny Story – I think we’d relate to each other really well.

Izabel, Saga – she is a BAMF, and she’s a ghost. I want to be friends with Izabel.

Luna Lovegood, The Harry Potter series – super weird, but also really loyal and kind. She was one of the characters I always really related to in the books.

Carson Phillips, Struck by Lightning – absolutely determined to do whatever it takes to get out of his small town. He’s also extremely passionate about the things he loves. He’s a bit of a jerk though sometimes.

Carson Phillips

Frank Porter, Since You’ve Been Gone – He’s a leader and everyone thinks he’s nerdy, but he just wants to be normal. He’s super sweet, complex, and well-rounded.

So that’s who I’d want at my lunch table, if, you know, I was still in school. Who’d you want to sit with you? Link me up to your TTT!
