From Page to Screen: The Scorch Trials Trailer

Alright, you guys. The Scorch Trials trailer premiered the same day I did a post about the new movie poster, so I wanted to wait a day or two to post about the trailer. So let me show it to you and then we’ll discuss it after, okay? Here it is:

Now that you’ve seen it, let’s talk about it. This is going to be a little ranty. If you’ve read the book, this movie trailer is NOTHING like it. There are characters with the group that shouldn’t even BE with the group; there is information given to Thomas and the Gladers that was NEVER given to them like that; there’s just a lot of stuff that’s different. It’s really annoying, but at the same time, it does look pretty AWESOME. It’s still going to be a good movie, I think. Now that I’ve seen TMR and separated the book and the movie in the mind, I can go into TST knowing it’s going to be SO different. Also, the Scorch looks EXACTLY like I pictured, so that’s definitely a plus. I’ve seen that James Dashner actually approved all of these changes. Do any of you guys know if that’s true and where I can see that?

What do YOU think about the trailer?

From Page to Screen: The Scorch Trials poster!

As you may or may not know, this blog started with a review of The Maze Runner by James Dashner, and even though I thought the first movie was REALLY different and some parts of it irritated me, I’m still excited for the next movie, The Scorch Trials, and I’ll definitely be seeing it in the theater. Yesterday, they released the first poster for the movie over on Facebook, and I wanted to share it with everyone because it. looks. awesome.

The Scorch Trials Movie Poster

I’m so pumped about this poster, you guys. It looks A LOT like how I pictured the Scorch, so that’s really exciting. For anyone who’s wondering how much they’ll change the plot though, MTV recently released a behind-the-scenes video in which Wes Ball says they’re basically using the next two books in the series (The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure) as the basis for this movie. You can check out the full video on MTV.com. I thought that would irritate me, but honestly, I’ve kind of separated the books from the movies in my mind because of how different TMR was, so now I’m just kind of excited to see what’s going to happen.

Thursday Thoughts: Book to Movie Adaptations (Through April 2015)

One of my plans for my blog in the new year was to post more discussion/bookish-but-not-review posts. Thursdays seem the best day for that, as I’ve got something on my blog on Tuesday and Wednesday and I plan to post a review every Monday and Friday. So I’m starting Thursday Thoughts as a (hopefully) weekly post in which I talk about something bookish, whether that be about reading, bookish life, books themselves, new books, book to movie adaptations, whatever. Basically, every Thursday you’ll get a post from me about books. Of course, I’d love if you participated! You can post about what I’m discussing or just link me up to one of your discussion posts. 🙂

Thursday Thoughts at Caught Read Handed

As always, there are a TON of books being made into movies this year. I, like many of you, prefer to read the book before I see the movie, but I don’t want to waste my time on a book that I might not enjoy. So, I am listing some of the books below that will be on the big screen in the next couple of months for you and for me. Let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of these books and if they are worth the readOr if you are looking forward to any of these adaptations. [All book covers from Goodreads. All movie poster from Rotten Tomatoes]

The World Made Straight Book Cover   The World Made Straight Movie Poster

The World Made Straight by Ron Rash (January 9) – I haven’t read anything by him before but he’s got TWO books being made into movies this year. Not in a theater near me though.

Mordecai movie poster   The Mordecai Trilogy Book cover

The Mortdecai Trilogy by Kyril Bonfiglioli (January 23 – Mordecai) – Can I just say that the cover for the book and what I’ve seen of the trailer don’t look anything alike??

The Last Apprentice Book Cover   Seventh Son movie poster

The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney (February 6 – Seventh Son) – described as a fantasy thriller and stars Jeff Bridges in the movie. Sounds like something I’d like. Also, Jeff Bridges. Did I mention it’s Jeff Bridges?

Where Rainbows End book cover   Love, Rosie movie poster

Where Rainbows End / Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern (Feburary 6 – Love, Rosie) – Same author as P.S. I Love You. I’m ready to cry and then go see Sam Claflin be gorgeous son screen.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of…HAHAHA. NOPE.

The DUFF book cover   The DUFF movie poster

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger (February 20) – I wasn’t sure about this one but I’ve seen so many bloggers talking about it recently, I think I’ll give it a shot.

Dead Stars book cover   Map to the Stars movie poster

Dead Stars by Bruce Wagner (February 27 – Map to the Stars) – Satire, Hollywood, culture and John Cusack in the movie? Pretty much sold. Probably won’t be in a theater near me.

Insurgent book cover   Insurgent movie poster

Insurgent by Veronica Roth (March 20) – I have, of course, read this. Putting it on the list in case you haven’t.

Serena book cover   Serena movie poster

Serena by Ron Rash (March 27) – I’ve wanted to read this one. Plus JLaw is in the movie. And Bradley Cooper. Should probably read before it comes out. Another that probably won’t be near me.

The Longest Ride book cover   The Longest Ride movie poster

The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks (April 10) – I HIGHLY doubt I’ll read this one, but if you guys think I should, I’ll take it into consideration. Lol.

The Moon and the Sun book cover

The Moon and the Sun by Vonda McIntye (April 10 – no movie poster yet) – Not usually a fan of historical fiction, but “King Louis XIV seeks immortality by trying to steal the life force of a sea monster.” Um, yes.

These are the book to movie adaptations I’ve noticed for the first four months of the year. Have you guys read any of these books? Should I check any of them out? Let me know in the comments!

Insurgent Teaser Trailer – Reaction

So here I was just working on some blog stuff and writing for WatchPlayRead and then BAM I come across the teaser trailer for Insurgent. I’m probably really behind but I’ve been busy. If you haven’t seen the trailer, here it is:

My first reaction was “What the actual F is happening?” We’ve got floating houses and concrete than can apparently catch fire. Wuuuut? Then I realized that this had to be one of Tris’ bad dreams in Insurgent, right? Because her mother is [spoiler] dead, and houses don’t float and concrete can’t catch fire.

I will say that it does look pretty awesome (even if the CGI isn’t super great). However, let me just leave this quote from Theo James here. “You have to honor the material for the first film because you have a fan base, but when you come to the second one, if you you’ve done well with the first movie, you now have the ability to think outside the box,” he said. “And I think as long as you have good character progression—which is essentially Four and Tris, the anchors of the films—if you have that stuff right, then if you lose some kind of threads of different plotlines, it shouldn’t matter.” Ugh.

What about you guys? What did you think of the trailer? First thoughts?

New Mockingjay Part 1 Poster

Holy crap, you guys! Have you seen this poster? It is gorgeous and amazing and I really want this to be on my wall. The marketing for this movie is so ridiculously awesome. I’m super impressed with all of it, including both the first and second teaser trailers – which I kind of fangirled over on the blog. When I saw this new poster today I just kind of stared at it for a second. I know it’s not super complex or necessarily deep or anything, but I love it. So yeah, that’s it. I just wanted to share it with you guys. 🙂 Mockingjay Part 1 hits theaters on November 21!

Mockingjay Part 1: Trailer #2

You guys, I kind of can’t handle anything right now. This trailer is AMAZING. I’m seriously loving the marketing that they’re doing for this movie. AHHH. Just know that I’m pretty much flailing over here. I don’t even have words. Just watch it and then let’s fangirl in the comments together, okay??

THIS IS SUCH A COOL TRAILER! The Mockingjay LIVES. YES.

The Maze Runner movie – new pictures!

So Page to Premiere just posted some new stills from The Maze Runner movie which comes out this September.
I’m both really excited about them and kind of confused, but I figured I’d share them here with you!

The first one is of a model of the maze that the Gladers have created out of sticks and stuff. It’s incredible. Next we’ve got a wrestling ring. Now, maybe my brain has just melted from the humidity and way-too-hotness of Mississippi, but I don’t remember a wrestling ring in TMR. If you do, let me know in the comments where that was mentioned in the book so I can go find it and have an AHA moment. 🙂 The last one is the grave that Thomas finds marked for a kid named George. I think that it looks super cool and creepy.

Even though I have no idea where the wrestling ring came from, these images make me even more excited for the movie, if that’s even possible! This next picture was an image released on The Maze Runner Movie Facebook. It is also super awesome. Can you just look at how amazing Dylan O’Brien looks? Also, whoever that kid is right in the middle looks super sassy. Like, SO sassy. I can’t handle it.

Is it September yet?

Mockingjay Part 1: Teaser Trailer

You guys! The first teaser trailer for Mockingjay Part 1 was released yesterday, and OH MY GOSH is it incredible. A lot of people were really upset that it wasn’t an actual trailer for the movie, but I thought it was a brilliant piece of marketing. It’s very simple and understated, but it is also quite powerful.

President Snow (Donald Sutherland) sits on a white throne while Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) stands next to him. The pair are dressed in perfectly clean, brilliant white. Snow delivers a decidedly grim speech to the people of Panem:

Since the dark days, our great nation has known only peace. Ours is an elegant system, conceived to nourish and protect. Your districts are the body; the Capitol is the beating heart. Your hard work feeds us, and in return, we feed and protect you. But if you resist the system, you starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed.  I know you will stand with me, with all of us, together, as one. Panem Today, Panem Tomorrow, Panem Forever.

Watch the trailer below and fangirl with me!

My favorite part of this trailer is that it makes us all out to be citizens of the Capital. What a great marketing tool. Are we citizens of the Capital, brainwashed and obsessed with appearances and material items, or are we citizens of the districts, ready to rebel and break free of this oppressive system? It’s an ingenious trailer, and I am seriously impressed.

The look Peeta gives at the end of the trailer gave me chills! Snow knows that the rebellion is happening whether he wants it to or not, so he’s not trying to stop it. The speech is a threat, first and foremost. He begins by offering protection and food and a system meant to provide for its people. But then he turns cold and scary. He will destroy those who rebel against the system. He will not stand for it. Peeta stands beside him with his head held high. If you look closely, however, you notice that his tie has a point on it so sharp it could seriously wound him if he lowers his head.

Can’t wait for the movie! What was your reaction to the trailer? Are you as excited as I am?
