Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Things That Give Me the Creeps in Books and/or Movies

Halloween TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:

Halloween themed freebie — your choice (ie. 10 best ghost stories, 10 things that scare you in books, 10 literary Halloween costumes, 10 vampire novels, 10 books that WILL scare you, 10 non-scary books for Halloween, 10 scariest covers, etc.)

10 Things That Give Me the Creeps in Books and/or Movies (I don’t want you to think I’m a pansy. These things may creep me out, but it doesn’t mean I don’t want or read these kinds of books – okay, except mannequins. Keep those things away from me)

  • Dolls/mannequins that come to life
  • Possession
  • The person looking through the window/watching you when you don’t know it
  • People eating other people and/or using their body parts for other things (like when people wear someone else’s face *shudders*)
  • The dark
  • The person who is always facing away from you and never turns around
  • People without faces
  • The monster under your bed
  • Little kids singing – you know the kind I mean
  • When things come out of the water – in a lake or a bath

What things creep you out in books or movies?

  1. I love this post, I was thinking of doing something similar to this on Halloween! Lol you beat me to it.
One thing that has terrified me since I was a kid was mirrors/reflections. Like when your reflection moves or talks without you doing so OR when there is something in the reflection that isn’t by you (like a face or something!) I actually had a string of nightmares in third grade where I was faced with my reflection and it. kept. moving. without. me. moving! Traumatized me for weeks!

  2. Singing kids are a little creepy. I haven’t found anything that really creeps out in books except for people eating people. I quite like books that are meant to be scary, better than I like scary films anyway,

  3. You summarized my creep-factor fears very well, so I’m glad to know that I won’t be alone in my fright when those dolls come out from under my bed while the possessed and faceless children sing. Now, clowns REALLY rate at the top of my fear-factor scale!!

  4. Possession is probably the one thing I can’t handle even a little bit. I think demon possessions are the scariest, but even ghost/spirit possessions creep me out. Things taking over people’s bodies? NOPE NOPE NOPE.

  5. I literally cannot even look at a mechanical doll or mannequin. Especially if their eye move. Sometimes when they set up animated displays in the shopping mall at Christmas I just had=ve to not go in there. Add to things coming out of the bath/lake: especially when they have long wet hair covering their face. Ugh! Your list gave me the chills but I loved it! MyTTT

  6. I’m pretty freaked out by all of these but clowns…
Clowns. I once had a nightmare about a clown and now I’m pretty done with clowns. I mean if I see one in the mall or something, that’s fine. But nighttime, when I’m alone, clown walks to me, it’s run for my life.

      • I’m fine with normal clowns but you know, the kind of clowns with that evil laugh.. yeah, the ones that only exist in movies, if I see THAT, I’ll freak. I still prefer not to see any clowns in the dark alone. Normal clowns are quite okay, I had to get balloons from them for my sister when she was younger. I think it’s the laugh..
