Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:
Ten Characters You Just Didn’t Click With
This was a somewhat difficult list to come up with because if I don’t click with a character, I tend to forget them pretty quickly. There’s only 8 here for that reason. I’m sure I’ll remember more as I see other people’s lists.
- Rose from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
- Mia from If I Stay by Gayle Forman (I didn’t click with this whole book)
- Amy Gumm from Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
- Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (unpopular opinion time)
- Hannah from The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder (though I really liked Zoe)
- Everyone from Panic by Lauren Oliver
- Everyone from The Eye of Minds by James Dashner
- Everyone from The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen
Tell me about some characters YOU just didn’t click with.
I am not agreeing with everyone from The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Adehi. I have put the book down and started reading something else. The perks of being a wallflower is my new current read.
I hope you love Perks! It’s one of my favorite books. I LOVED The Wrath and the Dawn, but not everyone will click with everything.
For me, it is hard to understand the terminology and the concept. I’ve never read a book like this before.
That’s what the dictionary in the back is for! 🙂
Yes to Panic! I only included Heather on my list, but I really couldn’t connect to any of the characters at all.

That was my second Lauren Oliver book, and I just don’t think she’s for me.
I don’t think she’s for me either. I struggled through Panic and I had to put down Before I Fall and though I intend to come back to it, I doubt I’ll be reading any more Lauren Oliver after that.
Same here. I read Panic and Rooms, so I gave her YA and adult books a try.
YES to The Eye of Minds!
RIGHT? I was so disappointed too because I loved the Maze Runner books.
I agree about “If I Stay.” I didn’t connect with any part of that book either. I haven’t read any of the others though.
I tend to remember the characters I didn’t like, but forget details like their names and/or role in the story!
Man, If I Stay was just so unemotional and weird.

Great list! I feel like opinion of If I Stay is very divided in general, because I’ve met quite a few people who just didn’t click with it. I really liked the book, but I don’t tend to read that much contemporary whereas the people I’ve met who do read a lot of contemporary thought it was only okay. 🙂 I still need to read Vampire Academy, perhaps I’ll get to it during the build up to Halloween.
I’ve seen the same. Most of the people I know who’ve read If I Stay loved it, but I just couldn’t care less. But to each their own. 🙂
I just bought The Rabbit Back Literature Society and I’m worried now!
It just wasn’t for me, but I hope you like it!
I only read a few chapters of Vampire Academy and was annoyed by Rose. Didn’t get any further than that!
I really didn’t like Cather from Fangirl, I found her really, really annoying. Nearly gave up on the book because I was just so frustrated with how stupid, immature and naive she was.
I haven’t read Fangirl yet, but I’ve heard that A LOT. Worried to try it!
Yes to Rose from VA! I didn’t even think of her. I did not like that book at all and it was mostly because of her lol.
