Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine in which we share a book that we are eagerly anticipating!
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Author: Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Release date: October 13, 2015
Synopsis from Goodreads:
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
Why I’m excited: I’ve said it like a million times, but I LOVE books that use different types of media to tell stories and this one has EVERYTHING. Also, the only way you haven’t heard about this book is if you’ve been living under a rock. It seems like everyone is obsessed with it. I try to avoid the hype monster, but I mean, read the description. How can you NOT get excited about this one? It sounds seriously interesting and exciting. And I hardly ever pre-order books, but I pre-ordered this one two months ago. Can’t wait for it to come in!
I need to put this on my list as well!
YES!
I’m really excited for this! I’ve heard some bad things, but I still want to give it a try.
I’m super excited! I have heard mostly good things, but I just love books that are told in alternative styles – with emails, interviews, etc.
I needed this yesterday. This gives off The Dead House (but sci-fi) vibes, ain’t it? At least I feel that way.
Cheers,
Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
YEAH. It’s similar in that it’s told using alternative media and I LOVE that.
SEE YOU ON THE FLIPSIDE. REMEMBER TO LOOK FOR EASTER EGGS THIS TIME MAYBE HOPEFULLY.
I am so looking forward to this, Amazon UK has the 22nd of October as it’s release date. Like you I like the idea of different mediums telling the story plus it just looks so good on the outside too!
It looks gorgeous! I hate it comes out a week later in the UK. 😦
I’ve been wanting to read this one too! I’ve loved seeing glimpses of it from people on Instagram from people with ARCs. It looks awesome!
I got approved recently for an eARC from Netgalley at it does look awesome!
I requested it from Netgalley but haven’t heard back yet.
Fingers crossed for you! I was shocked I got approved.
I pre-ordered mine and was told that mine would come in the beginning of August. I thought it was a fluke and that I may get my copy a bit sooner than the rest of the world. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and I was informed that I will receive this highly anticipated book when the release date is due.
DARN! Way to get your hopes up. 😦
Right?!
But I already expected that. I’d be ecstatic to receive it early. But getting this book when everyone else does is alright as well 😉
