Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:
Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read/Want To Read (or you could do fairytales I want to be retold or fairytales I love)
Like most of us, I’ve read my fair share of fairy tale and myth retellings (just this year I’ve read Cinder, A Court of Thorns and Roses, The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly, The Wrath and the Dawn, The Darkest Part of the Forest, and Valiant – I’m probably forgetting some), and I loved them. But there are SO many out there I still want to read, so I’m just going to focus on retellings I WANT TO READ – ones that are already published and ones that are yet to be released. These are actually a mix of fairy tale, myth, and comic retellings. 🙂 *All covers linked to Goodreads*
ALREADY RELEASED
NOT YET RELEASED
What are your favorite retellings? Which ones are you looking forward to?
I’m sure someone has said it already, but Ella Enchanted. So good, and the movie wasn’t too shabby. 🙂
I will say it deviated from the book quite a bit, but Anne Hathaway!
Agreed!
I LOVE Princess of Thorns. I highly recommend it. It’s hilarious!!
YAY! Good to know!
Great choices! I’ve read Splintered, but the others are all on my TBR! I didn’t realize The Artisans was a retelling! And I’m so ready for Black Widow!
Yep! The Artisans is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I am SUPER excited for Black Widow!
That cover of Black Hearts is seriously calling to me. Great list!
That’s what originally pulled me in. It’s so great, isn’t it?
Scarlet is a great Little Red Riding Hood story.
Some intriguing covers in that second section…
I guess I didn’t really realize that Scarlet was Little Red Riding Hood. I was trying to figure out which fairy tale that one would retell. Good to know!
She’s got to be Red. Scarlet is red, and there’s a wolf and everything! 🙂
I want to read Princess of Thorns, Tiger Lily, and Blackhearts too! I can’t resist a good retelling. I’m in the middle of Black Widow right now and so far it’s pretty good! I feel like I’m watching a Marvel movie, which is what I wanted 🙂
Let’s see, I love Ella Enchanted, ACOTAR, the Lunar Chronicles, Stitching Snow, A Curse Dark as Gold, Entwined, The Sweetest Spell, Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel, For Darkness Shows the Stars, Rook, Every Breath, Cruel Beauty, Scarlet, and a whole bunch more I’m sure! Looking forward to: Valiant, The Wrath and the Dawn, The Forbidden Wish, Tell the Wind and Fire, While Beauty Slept, Longbourne, Mechanica, Ash & Bramble, A Thousand Nights, Heartless, and A Wicked Thing. Can you tell that I love retellings of all kinds 😉 Hehe. Happy reading!!
AH! That’s awesome that it feels like a Marvel movie! That’s exactly what I was hoping for!
So many books on your list! Haha. And some I haven’t heard of that I will have to look up! Thanks for stopping by, Morgan!
Oh yay, new things for my reading list!! 😀
That’s my favorite part of Top Ten Tuesdays!
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier is one of the best books ever written, and it’s based on The Six Swans. I highly recommend it. 😀
Oooo! Cool! Heading to Goodreads now!
Tiger Lily is amazing, I read it a couple of months ago and I’m still in awe.
My TTT
Eeep! Can’t wait to read this!
YESS to so many of these! I loved Tiger Lily and it is such a beautiful book. I want to read Splintered too. A Study in Charlotte is one of my top reads for next year, plus the cover is so pretty. And being a huge Marvel fan, I think Forever Red has some high expectations. But at least we’re getting a Black Widow book – although a movie would be amazing 🙂
Totally agree that a Black Widow movie would be amazing, but I’ll definitely take a book for now.
I hadn’t heard of Blackhearts, it sounds really interesting! Here”s my Here’s my TTT!
Great picks.
Thank you!
Splintered made my list. I read Cinder, need to get back on the bandwagon and finish that series. I just heard about A Study in Charlotte a week or so ago. I can’t wait to read that one!!

Doesn’t A Study in Charlotte sound wonderful?
Great list!
Tiger Lily was beautiful. A bit dark, but still really lovely.
I couldn’t finish the Lunar Chronicles series, just couldn’t get into it.
Splintered has been on my TBR for a while maybe its time to pull it off of the shelf!
I will be reading Cruel Beauty in the next week or so, I have heard that it is a great retelling! 🙂
I read Cinder as an audiobook and really enjoyed it. I think it helped the book a lot. I might have to try a reread sometime as a physical book and see if I like it as much.
If I get my hands on an audio version I will give it a try! 🙂
Ooh that’s a great list! I got an ARC of Black Widow at BEA and I’m so stoked to read it (:
AH! I am super jealous of that! I’m really looking forward to it. Tell me how it is!
I definitely will (:
The only retelling I’ve read is ACOTAR, which I enjoyed. I have been saying all morning that I need to read Cinder. Like right now. It’s getting a ton of praise, and I’m clearly missing out!
I was really worried to read Cinder because everyone seems to love it. When I said I was going to read it, there was a mixed response. I read it as an audiobook and LOVED it.
These all look great, I see a couple that are on my list too 🙂
Here is my TTT
I’m excited to read them! Thanks for stopping by!
You’ve got a great list! I just recently started getting into retellings and I loved ACOTAR. I don’t know if you’ve read them yet, but you should check out Cruel Beauty (Beauty and the Beast) and Crimson Bound (Red Rising Hood). I will definitely be checking some of these out because they sound amazing!
I haven’t read those, but I’ve seen them a lot today! I’ll have to check them out!
Wow! You’ve got some great ones! And some I have never seen so I’m definitely adding a bunch more to my TBR. I got a chapter sampler of the Black Widow and I’m really looking forward to reading it!
Cool! Let me know how you like it!
I’m in the minority that didn’t like (cough*hated*cough) Scarlet or Splintered. I did enjoy Stacey Jay’s Of Beast and Beauty, so I’ll definitely try Princess of Thorns.
Oh, no! I’m starting Scarlet soon. I really enjoyed Cinder (I think listening to it as an audiobook really helped!).
I just didn’t like Scarlet herself. She carried on the tradition of Little Red Riding being annoying, haha. Cinder’s part of the story was still fun, and I really liked Thorne. Audio can make a difference, for sure.
OH! I see. Well, I loved Cinder – the character. I’ll let you know how I get on with Scarlet.
Great picks and so many of these I haven’t heard! I definitely plan to check them out. 🙂 I’ve been wanting to read Tiger Lily, The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, and Splintered.
There are just so many awesome retellings out there. I want to read them all!
And I’ve added another handful of books to my TBR list from your post aloe 😉

Haha. YAY!
