Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:
Top 10 Books From My Childhood (Or teen years) That I Would Love To Revisit
I’m going for a mix of books from my childhood and teen years.
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (isn’t that cover illustration awesome?!)
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Matilda by Roald Dahl
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan (I’ve actually only read the first three, I think, so I’d like to go back and read them all)
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
What books from your childhood or teen years do you want to revisit?
I’ve read Peter Pan a few years ago. Now it makes me want to read every spin off even more! I read the Percy Jackson series last fall and adored it! It kept me laughing the whole time. Now in the last two of the spin off that sadly isn’t as fast. Barrie and Riordan prove that good children books can be for any age!
Agreed! I love all of the Peter Pan/Neverland spin offs! I keep finding more and more and it makes me so happy. I’m looking forward to rereading the Percy series; well, rereading the first ones and reading the rest! 🙂
Love them.
I couldn’t count how many times I’ve read Matilda. I love that book!
Same here! But it’s been a long time. I need to reread it!
I really love Rick Riordan’s books. I devoured them and never could get enough of them! And HP is always a great choice! I desperately want to reread those soon!
I’ve really got to finish the Percy Jackson series, don’t I?
That Alice in Wonderland edition looks delicious!!
Speak and Percy Jackson are on my TBR list, and I currently own the Uglies series so I’ll be getting to that one soon(ish). I haven’t read any Agatha Christie (am I missing out?) or attempted the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit books… they seem so huge, and I was always petrified of High Fantasy… R x
I need that Alice cover in my life. Isn’t it gorgeous? I think the same person illustrates the book throughout. You definitely need to read Speak. It’s so powerful. If you don’t like old school mystery, you probably won’t like Agatha Christie. If that sounds interesting, you should check it out. I haven’t read the Lord of the Rings books, only The Hobbit. I tried LotR when I was like 12 and didn’t like it. The Hobbit it actually more of a middle grade book (unlike what the movie wants you to think), so it’s not nearly as intimidating.
The illustrator of that Alice book did a Snow White… and another fairytale too – a BookTuber hauled it recently but I can’t remember which one it was. They all look lush. I’ve never really tried old school mysteries, but I like modern ones, like who-dunnits? R x
YEAH! And Then There Were None is the classic who-dunnit. It’s really fun, and it’s also rather short, so you could probably read it quickly!
I love those covers for Wonderland and Lord of the Flies! Great mix of stuff on this list. I’ve never heard of Speak before – after reading all the comments I’m now adding it to my TBR!
The cover for Lord of the Flies is the one that I own! It’s pretty epic, right? I’m completely in love with the Alice one.
You should definitely check out Speak! It’s emotional and powerful.
I have semi-fond memories of reading LOTF as a teen for class…mainly because I played the part of Piggy in a group project reenactment and I myself have asthma haha.
Cheers,
Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.
Hahaha! That’s amazing.
Great variety of books Stefani! Happy reading 😀 https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/top-10-books-from-my-childhood/
That’s how I read! I’ve never been able to stick with just one type of book! 🙂
Haha, Harry Potter – couldn’t put that on my list because I’ve ALREADY re-read them too many times to count. 🙂 Nice list!
Hahaha! I’ve read the series so many times, but I just had to put it on this list. It’s been a couple of years since I reread it, so it’s due another reread soon. 🙂
I my next re-read is going to be in audio format. I’ve heard great things!
Speak was SUCH a powerful book. I know it’s been challenged by a lot of school districts, but I think it’s an incredibly important read for young adults. Also, that cover for Alice is so cool!
I completely agree about Speak. It’s SO powerful and I hate that a lot of young adults aren’t being allowed to read it.
Okay so the only book I’ve read on your list is Harry Potter XD I tried reading Uglies but never got into it; I never read Alice in Wonderland all the way through; I managed to survive my English class without reading the entirety of Lord of the Flies; and with Speak & Matilda, I just watched the movies. Basically, my childhood reading experiences are lacking. But maybe one day I’ll read all of these ;D
You definitely should read at least some of those. Speak is so powerful as a book – I haven’t actually seen the movie. And Matilda! You’ve got to read that one!
Ahhh Alice! I’m not sure if I ever read the unabridged version, but I’ll never get over Wonderland.
I don’t know how anyone could get over Wonderland.
🙂 So many of these I’ve read recently!
I didn’t even know about the Uglies books until a year or so ago, so I’ve read them extremely recently–they were really good!
It’s been so long since I’ve read Uglies – I recommended it to a patron who said she didn’t like it at all, so it made me curious to see if I’d like it now.
I really enjoyed the books, but then, I enjoy dystopian fiction and am interested in girl heroines, so it was just the sort of book for me.
Same here! That was the reason I loved that series so much – dystopian and girl heroine. I’ve really got to reread those soon!
I’m really ashamed to admit that the only one I ‘think’ I’ve read is Matilda, and I read the first 2 HP books. I clearly missed out on a lot of good books when I was a kid.
Oh, wow. Really? Well, if you have time, I’d definitely recommend these. Especially since you have a little girl!
I’ve read the first 6 and The Hobbit – all of them as an adult! It’s quite possible that Alice and Peter Pan were read to me when I was little, but I don’t remember them specifically. I might’ve technically read Lord of the Flies as a teen, but I was in college, so I can’t be sure. I think I picked it up after my college English class studied some dystopian short stories. I just added it to my re-read shelf. 🙂
Lord of the Flies is what got me into reading dystopian, so I would definitely say to check it out!! And you know how much I love Peter Pan, so read that one for sure if you haven’t already!
Yeah, I did read Lord of the Flies, it’s just been almost 20 years. I will definitely re-read.
I read Peter Pan to my son several years ago and I’m planning to read it to both kids this summer. Then I want to try the Peter and the Starcatchers series!
I love your list! So many great choices! Lord of the Flies was so great. 🙂
Wasn’t it? I loved that one. I’m so glad I was “forced” to read it in school!
Not a Lord of the Flies fan, but loved Matilda, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and (obviously) Harry Potter!
To each their own! 🙂 Lord of the Flies is what got me into dystopians, so I’m very grateful for that book.
That cover of Alice in Wonderland is amazing!!
RIGHT? Like, I need that in my life right NOW.
Loved a lot of these on your list! I almost put Lord of the Flies on my list… I read that in my 9th grade English class and I hated my teacher so I didn’t pay much attention.
I LOVED Lord of the Flies. I read it in high school too (I think it was 9th grade as well) but I couldn’t get enough of it. It’s what made me love dystopians.
