The lovely Cristina over at Girl in the Pages started Sunday Funday as a way to recap the bookish (and not-so-bookish) things that have happened that week.
I’m going to use today’s Sunday Funday to recap what I’ve read in January. Remember how I’m participating in the Book Memories Challenge this year? Well, to update you guys on what I’ve read and which quotes I’ve written down, I’m going to recap each month by showing what I’ve added to my book memories jar (can?) – a few of you said you’d like to see more of the quotes I’m using, so I hope this is cool with everyone!
“Still the image haunted his dreams throughout the night: a lovely girl gazing at the stars, and the stars who gazed back.” – Page 38
I wrote this quote down because it’s beautiful. I reread it several times in a row because I’m obsessed with it. There were several lines in Throne of Glass I loved, but this was my favorite. GR
“I wanted to believe I could be somebody in here just for me.” – Page 90
I don’t want to be a certain person for someone else. I want to be me for me. I easily related to this quote. GR / My Review
“And despite himself, despite the terrible thing we was doing, despite all of it, Call began to grin.” – Page 295
How can you not like that quote? Despite everything that’s happening to Call, he’s able to smile. GR / My Review
“Sometimes you have to face up to your fears to realize that they aren’t actually real.” – Page 92
One of my favorite things about this book is how real the main character’s anxiety was and how much I was able to relate to it. This quote is something I must remind myself of all the time. GR / My Review
“Her eyes are like two open books, and I suddenly want to devour every page.” – Location 443
Who wouldn’t want someone to say that about them? GR / My Review
“The weight of her pinned my fleeting thoughts to the ground, and in that moment, I was more in the world than I’d ever been.” – Page 78
This was a reread for me. We all know how much I love Maggie’s writing, and this quote is proof my love is not unwarranted. GR
“That’s why they come here – to dress themselves in books.”
Isn’t that what we all do? GR / My Review
“Adventure elicits action, and through action comes change. And change forces new experience. And experience elicits knowledge.” – Page 101
This was probably my favorite quote in the book. I agree wholeheartedly with what it says, and I had to write it down so I could look back on it when life is getting boring. GR
“I will be stronger than my sadness.” – Page 266 (of ARC)
This was hands down my favorite read of the month and will probably be one of my favorites for the year. I need to find a way to display this quote so I can see it every day. GR (Review this week)
“Sarah liked to think that night was the best time to work on staying silly and childish. Darkness always seemed more understanding about those sorts of things. More accommodating.” – Location 24 (of ARC)
I think we should all remember to keep a childlike view on life – be open, silly, nonjudgmental, willing to try new things, etc. GR (My review tomorrow)
“My heart is punching itself in the face with one arm and hugging itself with the other.” – Page 111
I’m pretty sure that everyone has felt like this before – drawn to something but also wishing you weren’t. GR
I also read DNF’d Tear You Apart by Sarah Cross this month, but I didn’t put it in my book memories jar, for obvious reasons. GR / My Review
Overall, I’ve read 3,560 pages so far in 2015 (plus an audiobook, which I haven’t included in the page count). I also haven’t counted all of the comics I’ve read in this.
How about you guys? What have you read so far? Anything I should check out?
I’ve been hearing so much high praise about The Throne of Glass and itching to read it (after I finish my immediate review stack and ARC’s)
I am not very good at compiling quotes so I will stick to the Top 10 Tuesdays meme for the time being 🙂
Sorry for taking so long to reply to you! WordPress didn’t alert me to your comment (I had to approve it and didn’t realize there was a separate “pending” tab)!
Throne of Glass is so so good! I hope you get to read it soon, Leona!
Mm, I can so relate to the Girl Online and the Heart and Other Black Holes quotations. Great finds!
Same here. MH&OBH is incredible. You should definitely check it out!
This is such a cool idea with the quotes! I love it. I’m anxious to hear what you thought of Maybe Someday.
I really enjoyed it – especially the soundtrack. I might be posting a review next week. Should be soon. 🙂
I love the idea of the Book Memories jar/can. It seems very lovely. But I don’t think that I could narrow it down to one favorite quote of a book 😀
Also the cards that you use look great! I think that you will have quite the collection of favorite quotes of the books you read in 2015! 🙂
It’s hard to narrow it down to one quote, but I write all the quotes I love down in a notebook where I take notes while reading. 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading all of the quotes in my jar at the end of the year!
cool the way you displayed the quotes. I do copy quotes, as I take notes for all the books I read, all in one notebook though. It helps me save lots of time to write my reviews. I read great books in January. See here: http://wordsandpeace.com/2015/02/01/2015-january-wrap-up/
Same here! I have a notebook where I take notes about the books i read – but it mostly just ends up being quotes I love. This challenge is a way to remember what I read through one quote I really loved. I’m excited to look at them at the end of the year! 🙂
The Girl Online quote reminds me of something a former pastor used to say: FEAR is often False Evidence Apearing Real.
I like that!
