Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:
Top Ten Books I’m Not Sure I Want To Read (books you may have bought but aren’t sure if you are into it anymore, books you wanted to read but heard mixed things about, hyped books you aren’t sure about — basically any book that has you going, “TO READ OR NOT TO READ?”
1 – 3. The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han
I bought this trilogy for $10 at Wal-Mart because of all the Jenny Han hype I’ve been exposed to since starting my blog. But then I read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which I wasn’t a huge fan of. I’m a little worried I won’t like these books either.
4. Fiend by Peter Stenson
I got this book through Blogging for Books, which I’ve realized is kind of a crappy deal for bloggers as you are required to review the book. I’m pretty sure I still want to read the book, and I will probably review it, but I will not keep using that program.
5. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
A friend sent this to me as I LOVE Scotland and I’ve been wanting to read the book, but I started it and just couldn’t read it. I love the idea but I don’t like the execution. I’ll probably try again one day.
6. When You Were Mine by Rebecca Searle
Bought this at Barnes & Noble for like $3 because it looked cute and I was in the mood for a cute book. But I have so many other books that I’d rather read. It’s just been pushed down the list.
7. Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
Same as #6 for this one.
Got this book for free when I was interning at Canongate. I still do want to read it, but it’s not a priority.

That’s all I got. I try not to get books that I don’t really want to read. I even looked at my TWO TBR bookshelves (yes, two), and I definitely wanted to read everything else on them. So only 8 this week. Oh well.
What books do you have that you aren’t sure you want to read? Link me up to your TTT if you participated.
I have way too many books on my shelves that I haven’t read. I’ve heard a lot about Outlander, I understand sometimes I start a book and realize I’m just not in the mood for it.
Nothing like cheap impulse buys to fill up one’s pile, right? I’ll probably give Outlander a try (jokes on you if you thought I meant the book series) when I get a chance to catch it on television, maybe.
Cheers,
joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
Haha. I think I’ll probably do the same thing. I’ll try the first episode or two and then maybe it’ll inspire me to try again with the book.
I feel like I’m the only person on the planet who has been unable to get through Outlander so I fully support your choice not to continue reading it!
You are definitely not the only one! 🙂
Outlander has been on my to-read list for ages, but it’s so long and I’m not sure if I have the time to dedicate to reading it quite yet…. I know so many people that have raved about it though, so I may just cheat a little and watch the tv show first.
Happy reading! 🙂
Ooooo. Cheater! I’m just kidding. I think that sounds like a great idea. I might just do that too.
I would love to start Outlander too, but it’s so big! Not just the book but the whole series. It’s very off-putting for me!
Me too. That’s part of the reason I haven’t started the Game of Thrones series.
I’ve thought about that Jenny Han series because I thought her other book was cute, but I think just the name “The summer I turned pretty” turns me off to it.
Haha. I completely agree. The title made me cringe a little, but I got all three books in the trilogy for $10 and I’d heard so many good things about them in the book blogosophere. We’ll see.
I read both series by Jenny Han and liked the summer I turned pretty better. You should give them a try.
I think I’m still going to give them a try. 🙂
Let me know if you do! I liked them. They were a quick and easy summer read.
Will do! I’m sure I’ll review them. 🙂
I’m debating the Outlander series, too.
Summer I turned Pretty was actually much better than To all the boys I’ve Loved before. I really recommend it such a super cute read! I want to read Outlander but that book is INTIMIDATING!

I’m still pretty sure I’m going to read the Summer trilogy, so I’m glad that you liked it!
Boo.. I can’t be much help either way since I haven’t read any of these…
Haha. That’s alright!
I haven’t read When You Were Mine by Rebecca Searle, but I recently read Famous in Love written by her and I adored it so much that I’m now vowing to read everything she’s written. I’m with you on the Outlander books. And now that it’s a TV show I feel like it’s the “cool” thing to read.
Famous in Love? I haven’t heard of that one. I’ll definitely have to check out When You Were Mine now! If I end up not liking it, at least I didn’t spend a lot of money on it. Haha.
I know what you mean. I think Outlander is going to fall victim to the hype monster.
I had the same reaction to Outlander … although now it’s getting so big, I feel like I should give it another try.
Right? That’s how I feel too, but at the same time, I have so many other books that I’d rather read, you know what I mean? Why waste time on something I didn’t like the first time?
I’ve seen Outlander on a few lists and never even heard of it myself! I’m intrigued though…
Check out my TTT!

It’s an interesting concept, and it is being made into a television series, so obviously some people like it. Haha. I just couldn’t get into it when I tried.
Thanks for stopping by, Katrina! Heading to read yours now.
With all of the hype regarding the Outlander TV show I’ve been thinking about picking the book up a lot as of late. As for the Summer series by Jenny Han, it’s my all time favorite contemporary series. Those were the first YA contemp books that I ever read and I still rave about them to this day.
Hmmm. Okay. I think I’m still going to try the Summer trilogy, especially since I paid for them. I’m just not as excited to read them because I didn’t like To All the Boys all that much.
I’m the same with 1-3, and Outlanders. I don’t like the cover, and the book is HUGE, but it’s getting rave reviews!

Yeah. A few people have recommended it to me because they think it’s right up my alley, but I just couldn’t get into it. Oh well.
