Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was:
Let’s talk about other types of stories! Top Ten Favorite Movies or TV Shows! (can break it down to top ten favorite romance movies or comedy shows etc. etc.)
So one thing you should probably know about me is that I’m a culture fiend. I love books, music, movies, television, theater, art… So I was really excited about this week’s Top Ten Tuesday so I could share some of my love of two of these things with you. I hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to give top ten favorite movies AND top ten favorite TV shows! 🙂
MOVIES:
El laberinto del fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (one of the best, if not the best book to movie adaptation I’ve ever seen)
Los Ojos de Julia (Julia’s Eyes)
American Psycho
Driving Lessons
Fight Club
Martian Child (I was going to put Say Anything, but I think I love Martian Child more because of that adorable kid)
The Family Stone (only during the holidays – but about ten times during the holidays. Haha)
I could go on and on, but I’ll end it there. If you couldn’t tell, I really love psychological thrillers aka movies that screw with your mind. And a few comedies. 🙂
TV SHOWS:
Teen Wolf (you’re all shocked, I know)
Lost
Doctor Who
Sherlock
The Big Bang Theory
Criminal Minds
Bates Motel
Tom and
Jerry (yep, I’m a kid at heart)
2 Broke Girls
About a Boy
What about you? What are your favorite movies or TV shows?
Although 2 Broke Girls sometimes has forced comedy, it’s still a fairly enjoyable watch I’d say. A lot of criminal mind episodes usually have me going “WHAT IS MY LIFE RIGHT NOW?!” when I’m basically either cringing or extremely perplexed by the writing/concept per each episode.
Cheers,
joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
I love almost every single one of the movies on your list! Donnie Darko, Dark Knight, Perks, Fight Club (OMG FIGHT CLUUUUBB!!)…the only ones I can’t say I like are the ones I haven’t seen. As for your TV list, there are only a few on there I can say I like (Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who). I don’t have cable or anything, so that’s really the only reason I haven’t watched the other shows.
Have you seen Pan’s Labyrinth? I think you’d really like that one. Yes, it’s in Spanish and you have to read the subtitles, but it’s an incredible movie. 🙂
I have seen it and I own the DVD!! I loved it, but its been years since I watched it.
Ah, well it’s very good. You’d probably also like Julia’s Eyes. That movie is crazy amazing. I saw it twice during the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2011 because I loved it so much. Tickets weren’t super cheap but it was worth it. 🙂
I decided after reading your post to check out all the stuff I haven’t heard of or haven’t watched yet anyways because you have excellent taste madam! 😀
Aw. Thanks! Let me know what you think of everything. :))
Literally Teen Wolf is my everything haha more like Dylan O’Brien! I also love 2 Broke Girls I totally forgot about that ….there are so many shows I am obsessed with that it made it hard to narrow down to just 10.
I LOVE DYLAN O’BRIEN. Oh my goodness. He’s an incredible actor. His acting in season 3 of the show blew my mind. Haha. Just amazing.
Finally someone who understands !!! Haha. I was so happy that they took his character that way and allowed him to play a darker role. He was absolutely phenomenal!!!
Right?! So good. I can’t wait to see him in The Maze Runner!
I want to see Perks of Being A Wallflower, I just missed it somehow. That’s what DVDs are for, right?
I think people get more out of Fight Club the first time they see it–or read the book, it’s just not quite the same the second time, but it’s still a good movie. And I agree, the Martian Child is incredibly adorable.
Trust me, buying the DVD of Perks is totally worth it. Especially for one of the deleted scenes. You’ve read it, right?
That’s probably true. I still enjoy watching it but I can only watch it once or twice a year..
Martian Child is just too adorable. 🙂
Oh, yeah, I’ve read it. Books are my addiction, not movies.
🙂 Well, you’d love the movie, I think. It’s such a fantastic adaptation, and the deleted scene I mentioned is when Charlie reads that poem he’s copied down for Patrick. They didn’t include it in the movie (which made me mad at first) but it’s included on the DVD and it’s beautiful.
I’ve only seen one movie on your list haha! (Dark Night Rises) I love Doctor Who and Sherlock too!
Wuuuuttt? That’s crazy. What kind of movies do you like?
haha, yeah. Science fiction and action movies. I love super hero movies too!
Well you might like Donnie Darko then. It’s a psychological thriller, but it has sci-fi elements too. 🙂
I’ve really been wanting to watch Bates Motel (and it’s conveniently on Netflix!) but I’m easily spooked so I’m scared it’s going to traumatize me hahaha. Same with Donnie Darko!
My TTT
Donnie Darko is pretty scary for some people. Parts of it did frighten me, but I just loved it. I get so engrossed every time I watch it. Bates Motel is incredible. Personally, I don’t find it that scary…
I completely forgot about Donnie Darko. I saw that one in HS and for whatever reason in completely, utterly, terrified me. I loved it though. It’s a fascinating film!
Ok, one last confession… I think reading your tweets and blog comments about Teen Wolf has convinced me to test drive the show. Seems very entertaining.
It’s pretty scary. A lot of people are scared of Frank (totally understandable) but I think he’s freaking awesome.
YESSSS! You should! Fair warning: season 1 starts a little slowly, but it gets good really quickly, in my opinion. I mean, just meet Stiles and you should be good. Haha. 🙂 Let me know what you think if you do check it out!
SYTYCD – duh 😉
I love The Holiday, The Goonies, A Christmas Story, Pride and Prejudice, Shag, and the list goes on.
Haha. I do love SYTYCD. Have you watched last week’s episode? I need to catch up before tomorrow.
Ooo. I love The Holiday too!
First thing. I totally agree about The Perks Of Being a Wallflower, it is the best Book-To-Movie adaption I’ve ever seen too! Next, Pan’s Labyrinth made my list too! I love Guillermo Del Toro 🙂 Finally, though I didn’t focus on TV Shows I love your choices. Tom & Jerry is ace! And I love Doctor Who, Sherlock and The Big Bang Theory.
Check out my TTT!
I’m also currently running a Giveaway!

Oh my goodness, Guillermo del Toro! I love him. He’s amazing. And yep, the Perks adaptation is incredible. INCREDIBLE. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by! Heading to check out yours now.
Totally agree with you about Perks of Being a Wallflower … I can’t believe I forgot that one for my list.
The Perks adaptation was incredible! 🙂
Ahhhh!!! What a great list! We’ve already talked about this, but we know that Guillermo del Toro can do no wrong! He’s awesome! And The Family Stone is one of my favorite movies too! So good!
Guillermo del Toro is amazing. Have you watched The Strain? It just premiered Sunday night. I haven’t yet, but let me know what you think if you’ve watched it!
AHH! The Family Stone! I watch that one like ten times during the holidays. 🙂
I haven’t seen it yet either! I got the book though, so I almost feel like I should read the book first, what do you think??
I have the book checked out from the library. I wanted to read it first too, but I don’t want to get too behind on the show. I don’t know.
Me neither.. I just don’t know. I bought the book at a used book store so I own it. I can read it whenever, but you’re right… I don’t want to get too far behind on the show either.
The longer I go without starting a show, the less likely I am to ever watch it.
Same here. I think I’ll just go ahead and watch it, then read the book asap. 🙂
There are a lot of psychological thriller types in that list! I struggled with Donnie Darko, I wanted to watch it to see what the deal was, but by the end I thought, “what is life? What have I just seeeeeen?” I’m going to go hide in a cocoon today and binge-watch everything.
My TTT: http://confessionsofabookgeek.wordpress.com/2014/07/15/top-ten-tuesday-favourite-movies-and-tv-shows/
Psychological thrillers seem to be my favorite thing to watch. And comedies. 🙂 Haha. I’m weird.
Donnie Darko is one of those ones that you either hate or love, I think. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Rachel! Headed to check out yours now.
We have very little overlap here – Doctor Who and Sherlock (Lost didn’t make my list but I did watch and enjoy it). Tom & Jerry is my kids’ favorite cartoon! My son has a laugh that I think of as his Tom & Jerry laugh. 😀
Aw. That’s sweet! Little kids’ laughs are the best.
I figured we’d have more in common, but of course DW and Sherlock overlapped. 🙂
Anyone who overlaps with me on either DW or Gilmore Girls gets a ⭐ – now I just need to find someone who likes BOTH! I really need my sister to come fangirl with me. 😀
Lol. I never really got into that show. I’ve watched part of an episode here and there but ended up changing channels. Maybe I just need to watch a full episode.
Sherlock is amazing. I heard that the next season will still be in 2016! 2016! that is a long, long time from now.
My TTT
I heard that too. It’s TOO FAR AWAY. But I suppose we’re used to long waits for it by now.
Thanks for stopping by!
The poster for Donnie Darko has me INTRIGUED. Is it a horror movie? Tom and Jerry is one of my favourite TV shows too! It was my childhood, hands down.
You haven’t seen Donnie Darko?! Oh my goodness. Please watch it. It’s a psychological thriller. It’s fantastic. Let me know what you think if you do watch it!
I LOVE Tom and Jerry. I still watch it. 🙂
