Stacking the Shelves: Birthday edition

As you may know, my 24th birthday was this past Monday. My parents are awesome and understand my love of books, and they bought me eight (count ’em: EIGHT) books. I don’t usually do Stacking the Shelves, mostly because I only get one or two books a week (if that) and lately, I’ve been getting most of my books from the library. But I thought it’d be fun to share the books I’ve added to my shelf this week as I got so many.

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews!

So here are the 8 books I got:

Birthday Book HaulLegend by Marie Lu

Hunger by Michael Grant

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets to the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
(which I’ve already read and reviewed, but I needed to own it because the slip cover is so dang beautiful)

I’m so excited about my book haul, you guys! Have you read any of these? What did you think?

    • I definitely loved Since You’ve Been Gone. I’d checked it out from the library to read and thought the cover was too beautiful to not own. The two girls they picked for the cover look just like how I pictured the main characters. 🙂

  2. Tell the Wolves I’m Home is one of my favorite books of all time, I hope you enjoy it!! Mr. penumbra and The Bell Jar are great too! I hope you had a nice birthday 🙂

    • I had a wonderful birthday; thank you! 🙂
One of your favorites of all time? That’s awesome. I’ve had my eye on that one for a while, so I’m definitely looking forward to reading it. Even more so now that you said that.

  3. Happy birthday!!! I’ve only read Legend from the books that you got, and I liked it. I read it at a point when this series was being mega-hyped, and I didn’t think it lived up to it (but my mom is totally in love with the series, haha!), but as the series progresses, I think the books got better and better. Hope you enjoy these books! 😀

  4. Happy birthday! I’m 24 as well, I think it’s a great age to be (in fact, I’m a little nervous about turning 25 in just a few short months! haha). Looks like you got a very nice haul as well. I have the first book in the Gone series, but now I’m really wishing I would have bought the redesigned cover instead of the original because I think I like them better. Oh well, I’ll just buy a second and give the first to someone else! Happy reading! :]

    • I’m glad that the copies of Gone and Hunger I have are the redesigned covers. I think the original covers with the kids on them are super cheesy. Haha. 🙂 I really enjoyed Gone! Hope you like it. 🙂

  5. The only one I’ve read is Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, which I loved! It’s really quirky and fun. 😀
I’ve got a birthday coming up next month and I’m hoping for lots of books / gift cards for books. Almost my entire wishlist is books (and Doctor Who cookie cutters). 🙂

  6. I read Legend. It was good, but not spectacular like some people say (including my own brother, so maybe it’s just me). I’ve been wanting to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets to the Universe for a while. It looks like it’d be such a fun, witty read. 🙂

  7. Oh, happy belated Birthday! I love your book haul! I just got my own copy of Since You’ve Been Gone, too, but unlike you, I haven’t started reading it yet. Anyway, I’m planning to do so very soon, though..I mean everyone seems to be totally ravished by it. 😀 Great book haul!
